Bed Bugs
Most pests will leave your property once their source of food is taken away. Bed bugs, however, can keep lurking long after their food sources—you and your family—have protected themselves. Here at Entomolex Pest Control, LLC, we provide high-quality bed bug treatment services that will remove them for good.
There are a variety of ways to spot bed bugs. You first might notice small, itchy bites along your skin. Bed bugs feed on your blood, so if you have bites that seem to have no explanation, it might be time to check your mattress. When checking your bed for bed bugs, your best bet is to look for reddish stains on the mattress, this is where they were crushed. If you find those, or even the bed bugs themselves, it’s time to give us a call. FACT OR FICTION? (Click to see answer)
+A little fact and a little fiction: Bed bugs can go a year without feeding in a controlled lab environment, but in real world scenarios it’s about 5-6 months.
2. Bed bugs spread disease just like a tick or mosquito.
FACT OR FICTION? (Click to see answer)
+Fiction: There is no scientific evidence that bed bugs spread any disease.
3. Bed bugs locate humans by detecting body heat.
FACT OR FICTION? (Click to see answer)
+Fiction: Although bed bugs can detect body heat, they locate humans by detection of carbondioxide when we exhale.
4. I can feel bed bugs when they bite me.
FACT OR FICTION? (Click to see answer)
+A little of both: Bed bugs inject an anesthetic and an anticoagulant in to you when they bite, this prevents people from realizing they are being bitten. However, some people are sensitive to the anesthetic, for those of you sensitive to the anesthetic you may feel a tingling sensation, therefore alerting you that you are being bitten.
5. I have bed bugs but I’m not being bitten< I have no marks or itching.
FACT OR FICTION? (Click to see answer)
+Fiction: This is a tricky one, though. Bed bugs do not discriminate as to their host, but for some reason we notice in some cases that the bed bugs we find on the bed are clustered way more heavily on one side of the bed where a particular person sleeps. This may indicate that that particular person may have been the first they fed on as a hatchling, so that person is their “go to” food source. Another theory is that that person releases more carbon dioxide when they sleep, making it easier for the bed bugs to detect them. We simply do not know the reason for this, we can only theorize. What we do know is that both people are being bitten, one just more than the other. The one that claims tonot have been bitten is simply just not allergic to their bites.
